This is a classic toy and even better, this version is wooden, so a great alternative to plastic. All of my children love playing with this toy, ages 5, 3, and 1. It lives in my sons robot themed room, so my 3 year old refers to it as his space donuts toy. It makes a pleasant clacking sound when you stack the rings on the peg. It's also visually pleasing and you can use it to talk about colors. It would make a great gift.
