- Learn the differences between screens and assessments
- Discuss the differences between criterion-referenced and norm-referenced assessments
- Will explore comprehensive screening and assessment process
- Learn how to identify the screens and assessments that will best meet programmatic needs
Documenting Children's Development
An exploration of techniques for observing, recording, and evaluating a child's developmental progress. During this training, participants will:
- Learn strategies and techniques to effectively develop and enhance their child observation skills
- Receive information on strategies and techniques to develop and enhance their skills for effective and objective record keeping of child observation information
- Learn techniques for using child observation as a tool for collection of assessment information and for instructional planning
Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning, 3rd Edition (DIAL-3)
Participants are trained on the administration, scoring, and interpretation of the Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning, 3rd Edition results. During this training, participants will:
- Become familiar with the testing materials for each area screen
- Learn procedures for administering and scoring screens for the three early childhood areas
- Be given opportunities to practice administrating, scoring, and interpreting assessment results
Early Language and Literacy Classroom Observation (ELLCO)
This session provides training on the Early Language & Literacy Classroom Observation (ELLCO), the instrument that assesses environmental factors in early literacy and language development. PreK-3rd grade educators are instructed on the instrument's administration and use of the assessment results. During this training, participants will:
- Become familiar with components of the assessment instrument
- Learn procedures for administering and scoring of the instrument
- Be given opportunities to practice administering, scoring and interpreting assessment results
