Racial and Cultural Global Diversity

The early childhood classroom plays an important role in increasing children's awareness and acceptance of racial and cultural global diversity through the toys and materials that are used and the pictures and photos displayed. Examples of materials offered by Kaplan that show racial diversity include baby dolls with different skin tones, posters and photos of children representing more than one race or ethnic group, and books showing people with different skin tones, facial features, and hair color and texture. Kaplan also offers a variety of materials that show cultural diversity including books written in multiple languages, play foods representing specific cultures, posters showing people in their home-life settings, dress-up clothes representing different countries and customs, puppets representing people of different cultures, and adaptive equipment used by people with disabilities.
