These guides offer families simple strategies to support young children's healthy social and emotional development. Filled with suggestions of everyday activities that families can enjoy together and promote three key protective factors: initiative, self-regulation, and attachment/relationships. 3 years & up. Cooperative games eliminate stress, build self-esteem, and teach kids that playing together can be fun! These games cover socially challenging situations and together the group decides upon the best action. This encourages all players to communicate, listen and participate in the game. 4 years & up. Explore the look and tone of emotions as kids match narrative statements to photographs of children's faces showing different expressions. To play, students listen to the sounds on the CD and place tokens on the images of their game cards that match what they hear. Each game set includes 12 game cards (5.5" x 8.5" each) with 8 photos per card, 120 game tokens, an audio CD, and directions in English, Spanish, and French. The Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA) is a 72-item, standardized,norm-referenced behavior rating scale that assesses the social-emotional competencies that serve as protective factors for children in kindergarten through the eighth grade.
