Phonological awareness is a set of skills that develop a child's ability to hear and manipulate the sounds in language. Research has demonstrated that phonological awareness is a critical factor for reading success. For teachers to effectively support the development of Phonological Awareness, they need to be able to identify phonological awareness skills and tasks in the proper sequence of development. In this course, participants will learn and practice phonological awareness tasks and activities to engage children in learning activities that are targeted and fun. This is a 4-hour course worth 0.4 CEUs. This course can be utilized to meet the training requirements to earn or renew your Child Development Associate® (CDA®) credential. Course content is aligned with the CDA® Subject Area 2: Advancing children's physical and intellectual development.
